San Paolo alla Regola

where: Via di San Paolo alla Regola, 6
open: daily 10-12:30 & 17:00-20:00

A short walk from Palazzo Spada is the 17th century Baroque church of San Paolo alla Regola.
According to legend a church was first built here over a small room where Saint Paul lived and taught while waiting for his ill-fated trial and execution. Unfortunately for San Paolo alla Regola the church of Santa Maria in Via Lata also holds that claim.
There are three frescoes at the main altar by Luigi Garzi that are worthwhile seeing, depicting Saint Paul's Conversion, Preaching and Martyrdom.
